Which Riiffs to try first

1. Pick a direction

This guide sorts the 10 scents that come with a note list into eight families, using the notes themselves. For each family, three scents to start with:

• Fresh and citrus: start with Freeze, Freeze in Flames Extrait and Nasma Extrait.
• Fruity: start with Aswaar and Freeze in Flames Extrait.
• Floral: start with Nasma Extrait.
• Spicy and aromatic: start with Seasons Rise and Fareed.
• Woody and green: start with Aswaar, Fareed and Seasons Drift.
• Amber, oud and incense: start with Seasons Drift, Momento and Momento Liquid Gold Extrait.
• Sweet and gourmand: start with Momento, Momento Liquid Gold Extrait and Zenith.
• Musky and powdery: start with Seasons Rise.

If you already know which notes you like, the notes page lists every note of the range, and 12 notes have a page of their own with all the scents that contain them. The notes that most scents list: cedarwood, bergamot, lemon, amber, vanilla, grapefruit, ginger, lavender, tonka bean, caramel.

Many Riiffs names come in lines that share a word, and the lines are an easy way to move around the range. Each link opens the list of all perfumes, filtered by the word:

4. Who is it listed for?

The listings name an audience for most scents: 1 are listed for men, 1 for women and 8 as unisex. On the list of all perfumes you can filter by that. It is a category, not a rule: a scent listed for men is not off limits to anyone else.

5. Seasons

Where the shop gives seasons, it tags 1 scents for spring and summer only and 3 for autumn and winter only. The scent pages show these tags under key facts, attributed to the shop. Treat all of it as a suggestion.

6. Mind the size

Every Riiffs perfume the shop lists is a 100 ml bottle, so the size will not tell the scents apart. What does differ is the concentration: some are eau de parfum, others extrait de parfum.

7. Closest within Riiffs

Once you have a scent you like, open its page: the section on its closest siblings names the Riiffs scents that share most of its notes and says what is different. The key facts also give a one-line style in this guide's own words.

8. Scents without a note list

For these the shop names no notes, so there is nothing to compare by note: Golden Elixir Extrait. Their pages show the size, the audience where it is stated and the other scents that share a word in the name.

You cannot smell it first
